This is the 6th and final part in a series that I am writing about “Getting our House in Order”…
To catch up if you are just getting here, these are the links to the previous posts:
In this post, I will be looking at the pillar of success dealing with career and business. When putting all of these pillars together and taking responsibility for the results that you get in your life, a successful life is, indeed, in your future.
With regards to career and business, the more “in demand” that your skills are in the market place the more that you will be compensated as long as they are skills that the market place are willing to pay for, this is key.
If the market is not willing to pay, then you might as well not even have the skills.
Remember, around the turn of the century, there were some very skilled horse and buggy companies around, the opportunity that presented it self to these companies was the horseless carriage. And almost over night, these skills were rendered almost useless. But the companies that survived this advancement in technology, were those that looked ahead in the market place and re-tooled their skills to reflect what the current market place was willing to pay for.
A more recent example of this, in the social networking arena is My Space and Facebook. My Space was the giant in social networking for quite a while, but for some reason they didn’t adjust to what the market place was looking for and Facebook quickly took the social networking platform to a new level. And with the advances that are coming out on a daily almost hourly basis in the technology arena, Facebook’s future could be a little clouded as is evident in their recent IPO challenges. Their challenges are coming from the area of mobile use of their service and the inability to monetize that area of their business. I am sure they will make the necessary adjustments and they will become a successful company but that has yet to be seen.
Here are a few key points to consider in the Career and Business area:
1. Work Hard – There is no replacement for hard work, when charged with a task, do it to the best of your ability and work at it hard. If you are going to take on a task, do it with all your heart and might. Grant Cardone did a great video post about this, check it out below.
2. Work Smart – It’s not just about working hard, it is also about working smart as well. We should always be looking ahead and questioning the skills that we bring to the market place. What good is it to work hard at something that the market place has no need for. We need to constantly look at what we are doing and we need to make sure that we are keeping up with what the market place is looking for. After watching Grant’s video, I did this video in response to his video.
3. If you are not in a business of your own, start one today – There are many Network Marketing companies out there to get started in. Look for one that fits into your area of interest. This will help keep you focused as you get it off the ground. It will also help you get the basic skills down for running a business and will help you understand a little bit more about what your current employer is focusing on with regards to their business.
It is important to make sure that you focus your working time, on skills and abilities that the market place is willing to pay for. This will help keep you employed even when the times start to get tough.
Another thing to keep in mind in this area, is that people will not always spend money on things they NEED, but the will always spend money on things they WANT.
This is an important distinction to make.
And we can not let our thoughts of what we think people NEED, get in the way of looking at the things that people WANT!!
As Always, Here’s to Your LifetoSuccess,
God Bless You,
