Your child is entering high school.  You just have realized that within four years, colleges will be calling.  Your son or daughter will likely have their heart set on some school, someplace.  Although you do not want them to group up and move on from you, it is coming.  The cost of college tuition is also coming.  That is an even worse thing to have to think about.  Is it too late to start thinking about how you will pay for your son or daughter’s education into college?

It’s Never Too Late

The amount of money that your son or daughter will need to college depends on the type of school that they will go to, the length of their educational program, what they would like to do as well as the time frame for when they will enter.  Currently, colleges tend to increase their tuition each year by about 5% over the last year.  How many years will it be until your child enters college?  That’s the key number you must know and consider.

Obviously, the closer that they are to entering college the more that you should invest in their education now.  If they will enroll in 4 years, you have 4 years to prepare for the big bill.  If they are just turning 5, then you have a few more but still are going to pay a good amount of money for college education as well.

There are several avenues for you to take, though.  For example, financial aid, scholarships and grant programs are available to help the student to get some financial coverage for their education.  Yet, there is not likely to be enough available to provide them with unlimited educational funds.  This is where you will need to come in.  By all means, a student can work and pay for school at the same time, if this is necessary.
