LifetoSuccess.com Goal Setting

From: John Clark - President, LifetoSuccess.com

Goal Setting is one of the magic keys when it comes to success. The saying goes if you don't have goals for yourself you'll end up working for those who do have goals.

Now that's pretty straight forward.

Goal Setting seems to be one of the biggest subjects found on the Internet when it comes to personal development and success.

That being said... why is it one of the biggest subjects?

Well because it's vitally important when it comes to your success. For you to have any level of success you have to have goals and have to have plans to achieve them.

Once you have your goals, the next thing you need to do.... is take action. Not just action but massive action.

Now you must be saying to yourself, "John, that sounds all well and good but where do I start?"

Well it starts with your dreams. You have to get connected with your dreams.

And you have to get to your dreams as far back as you can remember. And the farther back the better.

Why?...

The reason for this is because when you were younger you had no fear and your dreams were probably bigger than what they are now. As time goes forward we tend to peel back our dreams to fit our comfort level.

You need to connect to the dreams had when you were younger. This is where you were connected to your area of greatest strength. As we get older a great majority of us tend to settle for a paycheck and move away from those things that fall within our greatest strength, which if we were to leverage these strengths we would create great results.

So... at this stage we need to make our dream list. The question we need to ask our self is, "If we were guaranteed to succeed, what would I do?... where would I go?... How would I spend my time?... Who would I spend my time with?... What business would I start?

Make this list as long as you can. The longer the better.

Now that we have this dream list, we need to start to identify which of these goals resonate with that feeling inside that makes us really excited.

You know the ones I'm talking about.

The ones that cause you lay in bed unable to sleep.

The ones that cause you to get up from that bed and start to write down plans and take action.

Now from here you have a good idea which dreams we need to be concentrating on.

You should have several dreams in each department in your life:

  1. Business and Career

  2. Family and Personal

  3. Health and Fitness

  4. Financial

  5. Self Development

  6. Spiritual

  7. Social and Community

Now if you haven't got a list of dreams that touch on each of these categories, than we need to go back and and broaden our dream list.

This will help us remain in balance.

And all long lasting success comes with balance. Now that doesn't mean that you always have to be in balance. As a matter of fact sometimes in the beginning of a goal we may want to be a little out of balance to get our our goal off the ground and to give it a little momentum of its own.

But once we get this goal off the ground, we need to get back into balance. And start to work on some of our other goals in the other key areas.

So here we are... we have our goals started and we are living life and the kids have to go to soccer games, the boss is on vacation and your pulling double duty, your father has to go to the hospital for an operation and the list can go on forever.

What do we do to keep the momentum going? How do we keep the goal moving forward?

Well that all depends on the why?

One of my mentors, Jim Rohn says, "When the why is big enough the how will take care of itself?"

The answer to this question lies in the why. The more reasons you have for accomplishing your goal the more push you'll have.

So pile up the reasons, and make them big. Tie them into family members.

How will the accomplishment of this goal positively effect those closest to me?

In closing this article on goal setting, I want to make make another note from Bob Proctor, another mentor of mine.

Bob says that your goals should be big. If the goal you set is something you have already accomplished it's not a goal at all.

Your goals have to make you stretch. Your goals have to make you become someone more than who you are now.

Jim Rohn says, "To make a goal to become a millionaire. Not for the money but for the person you have to become to be worth a million dollars."

We have all heard stories of people who won the lottery and a year later they are worse off than they were before they won the money.

Now why is that?

The reason is they didn't become a millionaire. They didn't become a person of value.

My wish for you is to achieve your goals. And I hope this article helps.
